Cherryville, NC (WBTV) – Last weekend marked the finale of the 2013
Cherryville High School track season. Trent Friday is sure to remember it with
a clean sweep in his three events; 100, 200 and 400 meter.
Along with the 1A championship titles, he broke the state records in all of
them: in the 100 meter; 10.48s, 200m; 21.71s, and 400m; 48 flat. Friday was out
to break the record for the 100 and 200m but with the 400, he said he was
focused on doing the best he could in each race. It was a pleasant surprise he
broke the 400m record that he set his sophomore year.
Friday said he's just eager to see how much faster he can go and better he
can get. The junior has run since he was 7 years old, took a short break at 12
and was highly recruited by the Ironmen track team. As a sophomore, Friday won
the state championship in the 400m with a time of 48.12 seconds.
The 6-foot-1 Cherryville student hopes to get recruited by NC State, Clemson
or Miami, but for now he's just excited that his moves on the track are
creating some interest from colleges.
