Police: Former foster parent charged with sex crimes against kids

A former resident of Spencer was extradited from Tennessee back to Rowan County last week on sex crimes charges.

William Wayne Jones, is charged with four counts of first degree sex offense and four counts of indecent liberties of a minor, according to a news release from the Spencer Police Department.

Police say the alleged crimes occurred at Jones' former residence on North Yadkin Avenue in Spencer from January 2002 through May 2005.

Jones and his wife were formerly licensed as foster parents through Rowan County Department of Social Services and were responsible for children placed in their care from November 2001 through March 2004.  

The alleged crimes were reported to Spencer Police Department by Cocke County Sheriff's Department in Tennessee.

Jones revealed details of the alleged crime during an open court proceeding in Tennessee, according to the release. 

After Jones was interviewed by Cocke County detectives the information was sent to Investigator N.W Pacilio of the Spencer Police Department who further investigated the alleged offenses and obtained warrants for Jones arrest pursuant to the investigation.  

Jones is currently being held under $1 million bond in the Rowan County Detention Center. 

The investigation is ongoing. William Wayne Jones was also known as "Jake" Jones during the time of the alleged offenses.
