A Mesa family is safe after fire that began on the patio of their home quickly spread to the attic, firefighters said.
Two adults and two kids were displaced by the fire that broke out at about 4:45 p.m. at 318 E. Eighth Dr.
As the fire grew, Mesa firefighters turned to Gilbert and Tempe fire crews for help.
One of the occupants said he was servicing his quad bikes on the patio. He went inside, looked out and saw flames coming from them, lapping up to the eaves and ultimately the attic, fire authorities said.
It took firefighters 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.
The home was a total loss.
