Former Independence star quarterback Chris Leak is returning to the University of Florida as a quality control assistant for the football team. The move was announced today by Gators coach Will Muschamp. The move is a start to a possible coaching career for the former Florida record breaking quarterback.
Leak led the Gators to the 2007 BCS National Championship and is Florida's all time leading passer with more than 11 thousand yards.
At Independence, Leak passed for a state record 15,593 yards. He has the state single season record for yards with 5,193 yards. He also passed for a national record 185 TD passes in his career.
Leak also lead the Patriots to 3 straight state title from 2000-2002 and only lost 1 game as the starting QB during that time.
