Police: Woman falls off motorcycle, struck and killed by car in W. Charlotte

A woman is dead after falling off the back of a motorcycle and being struck by a car moments later.

Police say it happened moments after Sonia Ramos and another man left a Dairy Queen, feet away from the scene of the collision late Thursday night.

A Dairy Queen employee tells WBTV he was serving Ramos and a man.  The employee, Andrew Jones, says he watched the customers as they drove off, outbound on Wilkinson Boulevard.

Suddenly, Jones says he saw Ramos, the passenger on the motorcycle, fall off and onto the street. As he rushed over in an attempt to help her, Jones says he saw a car run her over. At that point, Jones and several witnesses raced over to the fire station a short distance away. Jones says he frantically knocked on the door to get the attention of firefighters. Then, Jones says he ran over to the driver of the motorcycle, who was clearly shaken.

"She (Ramos) was passed out and her arm was broken and the man was actually...he seemed fine. He was kneeling over her and everything and I asked him if he was okay. He just looked up at me and he was crying and everything," Jones said.

Firefighters and other first responders arrived on the scene moments later. MEDIC took Ramos to the hospital but she was pronounced dead 30 minutes after the accident happened.

Police say the driver of the car, 27-year-old Lakisha Woodard, is charged with driving with a revoked license. Officers say Woodard, who was behind the wheel of a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis, stopped right after she struck Ramos.

Police say neither speed nor alcohol played a role in the incident.
