A man was arrested in Statesville after stabbing another man three times following an argument, according to a release from the Statesville Police Department.

The incident took place Wednesday around 8:30 p.m. on Deaton Street.

Police said Ryan Hooks and Jairus Byrd got into an altercation that ended with Byrd using a knife and stabbing Hooks three times before leaving the scene.

Hooks, who was stabbed on the side of the head, in the chest, and in the back, was taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital. Once evaluated, he was transported to Baptist Hospital. Police said he is expected to be okay.

A short time after the incident, SPD Officers located Byrd in the 1000 block of West Front Street sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle "slouched down as if to hide," the release states.
