VIDEO: Owl unharmed after getting hit, stuck in truck grille

CHERRYVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

A Gaston County woman says her daughter's Sweet Sixteen will be one that she'll never forget after the pair struck an owl with their truck - and the owl got stuck inside.

Michelle Mullins and her 15-year-old daughter, Allison, were at Cherryville High School on Tuesday night to paint the school rock for Allison's 16th birthday on Wednesday.

On the way back home, the pair saw an owl on the side of the road. Michelle said as soon as they realized that it was an owl - it took flight - and she hit the owl with her truck.

Michelle told WBTV the owl became lodged in the grille of her pickup truck.

They pulled over at the Gasland on 150 in Cherryville and called the Cherryville Police.

A crowd gathered to watch the excitement.

Michelle was filming when a police officer opened the hood and removed part of the truck grille and the owl took off. The owl flew into a window of the gas station.

She told WBTV they thought the owl might have been hurt but it flew away appearing to be unharmed.

As this was all happening, it turned midnight and Allison turned 16.

"She'll never forget her 16th birthday, ever," Michelle says. "It's just unbelievable, that's why we videoed it because nobody's ever going to believe there's an owl in my truck."
