On a day where 2 players transferred from the basketball program, the Charlotte 49ers picked up some guard help with the transfer of Ben Cherry.
Cherry is a 6 foot 2 guard who comes to the 49ers from Tulane. He will graduate from Tulane later this month but still has one year of eligibility remaining and can play immediately for Charlotte since he has graduated from Tulane.
Cherry suffered a season ending knee injury in 2010 and received a redshirt year and that's what gave him this extra year of eligibility.
He is a native of Charlotte and graduated from Myers Park.
He will definitely help the 49ers with his ability to shoot three pointers. Last season, he drained 34 threes and hit 50% of his shots from behind the arc.
Last season, the 49ers were the worst 3 point shooting team in the A-10 as they only hit 26% of their threes for the year.
Earlier in the day, it was announced that sophomore guard E. Victor Nickerson and freshman forward Darion Clark had decided to transfer from the program.
