CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Police in Charlotte say two men have been arrested after a home was broken into early Friday morning and then later caught fire.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, officers were called to a home along the 4400 block of Cades Cove Drive on Friday morning around 1:16 a.m.

Officers say a victim called 911 from inside of the home, stating that her residence was being broken into by two men.  As officers arrived on the scene, the men began to run from the home.

The family told police that someone forced their way into the home and tried to take items from them at gunpoint.

Both men, later identified as 33-year-old Davion Jerome Herron and 25-year-old Rashawn Shamario Sanders, were detained and transported to police headquarters to be interviewed by detectives.

Both admitted to planning and breaking into the residence and robbing the victims to obtain drugs and money that they believed to be inside the home.

While both suspects were being interviewed, an additional 911 call was placed, advising that the victims' residence was on fire.  The Charlotte Fire Department responded to the scene but was unable to contain the fire.

Firefighters say fire and smoke was coming from the house when they arrived at the scene around 5:30 a.m. Friday morning.

Charlotte Fire Captain Rob Brisley says it took 27 firefighters about an hour to put out the flames.

No one was hurt.

The CMPD Arson Task Force is now investigating what led to the residence burning.

Sanders and Herron have both been charged with three counts of attempted robbery with a firearm, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, first degree burglary, and three counts of second degree kidnapping.

Herron has also been charged with firearm by convicted felon.
