The North Tryon Street corridor has become a "rock city."

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The North Tryon Street corridor has become a "rock city."

It's where two men are using rocks to break into glass-front businesses and CMPD thinks it's the work of the same people.

At a BP Station on West Sugar Creek, surveillance video shows two men outside at 4:30 a.m.

They hunt around and find a very large rock. One of the men winds up and throws it toward the glass door. It bounces back. But he picks it up again and this time, the rock punches a large hole. The two men they kick their way in, stealing cigarettes and other small items. And all this happens while a burglar alarm sounds.

"They know when that alarm sounds, they have X amount of time to get in a get out," said Detective Marty Cuthbertson. "Very quick, very quick. They take whatever they want and flee away on foot."

And they were just as quick two nights later at a Cricket store on North Tryon. Again, they used a rock. Again they broke the front glass, kicked their way in and stole a cell phone from a display.

Because they were wearing the same clothing-- one in a black and white striped jacket, the other in all black with a white hood-- police are convinced it's the same guys.

"Yes, same clothing, same height, same weight, both about 6-foot in height. And both about 160 pounds each."

They may also be responsible for many other crimes in the area.

"Just two burglaries we know of, but maybe several others along that North Tryon street corridor."
