Developers unveil vision for 'The Kenwood Collection'

KENWOOD, OH (FOX19) -

Owners of what's now called "The Kenwood Collection" unveiled their vision for the more than 300,000 sq. foot building that will house both retail and office space.

"We have challenged ourselves to say, what if we've had an opportunity to develop a project that will house a collection of retailers, not in this market and marry it with class-A office tenants," said Davis Birdsall, Senior Vice President of Strategic Investment Funds for Phillips, Edison and Co.

Many people question whether the structure that has been sitting for five years is safe. Birdsall answered that question Thursday.

"The structural steel is just fine and I would appreciate it if you would stop asking," said Birdsall. "Just a little rust you can knock it off and it will be fine."

David Birdsall says the steel has been inspected by Messer Construction.

The Hamilton County Building Inspector's Office says they have not inspected the steel because no new building permits have been submitted and the last time the building was inspected by them was in the winter of 2011-2012.

In a statement to FOX19, the office said: "We cannot confirm or deny whether the steel is satisfactory until these reports are submitted."

No new tenants for the building have been announced, and there is still no timeline for when the project will be completed.

New signage at the site reads, "New Owner, New Team, New Vision. Watch it happen!"
