Golfers To Tee Off At Quail Hollow

Good morning to you on this Thursday, 2 May 2013, from the WBTV News morning team...John Carter reporting to you this morning.  I hope your television is turned on right now as we have a lot of news to tell you about from 4:30 to 7:00 this morning.

A lot of excitement in the air as the first round of the Wells Fargo Championship tees off at the Quail Hollow Club in south Charlotte this morning.  Astrid Martinez will be live from Quail Hollow with details of what's happening.  Just FYI...the first groups tee off at 7:00...Pat Perez, Tag Ridings, David Hearn on the first tee...while John Senden, Boo Weekley, David Lynn will be on the tenth tee.  The winner of the tournament receives $1,700,000!

Cam Man Ron Lee will be live from Hough High School in Cornelius.  Hundreds of parents packed the school's gym last night...worried about the safety of their children. They're upset over how the school has handled recent incidents.

Chris Kelley, a member of the 1990's rap duo Kriss Kross, has died.  He was only 34 years old.  We'll have more details.

A Charlotte Mecklenburg Police school resource officer has been arrested and is facing charges this morning.  Jeffrey Taylor, who's been with the force since 1989, worked at Phillip O. Berry High School.

Duke Energy Corp. is holding its last annual shareholders meeting with long-time CEO Jim Rogers in charge.  The meeting here in Charlotte today will be the last time Rogers discusses recent profits and prospects for the months ahead.  He'll retire by the end of the year from the country's largest electricity company.

We'll have more on Congressman Mel Watt being nominated to be head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency.

President Obama flies to Mexico City today to meet with President Enrique Pena Nieto.

Freightliner workers in Mount Holly are planning to protest about their working conditions today.
