The Charlotte swimming community joined together Wednesday to help raise money for three people injured in the Boston Marathon bombings.
Nicole Gross is a tri athlete coach at the Mecklenburg Aquatics Center in Uptown. She, along with her husband Michael Gross and her sister Erika Brannock were injured when two pressure cooker bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon in April.
On Wednesday, the Aquatics Center opened it's doors for a series of coached swimming workouts. The group raised just under $10,000 from the workouts.
"To get in the water and to give a donation when you walk in the door, it's an easy way to help someone out," said Nicole's friend Justin Andrews.
Money raised will go directly back to Nicole and her family to help pay for medical bills. If you aren't able to take part, you can still drop off a donation at the door. You can make checks payable to "Partner for Parks".
