WBTV hosting a pet microchipping clinic

Beth Carroll describes her cat, Jack, as a cat's cat.

"He likes to chase things, play with the other cat, and he likes to do things his way.  He also likes to go outside," Carroll said.

It is when Jack gets outside that things have gone wrong for the family.

During a family move a few years ago, Jack got out and was missing for 13 months.  His family thought they'd never see him again.  Then a vet called to say Jack had shown up in his office.

"Just to know that he was 12 or 13 miles from where he started is crazy. I have no idea what he did during that time," Carroll said.

Just a few months ago, Jack did it again, and was gone for three days until Animal Care and Control called to say he was with them.

"I tell everyone I know who has pets it's the best thing you can do.  You don't know when they might go missing and unlike a collar a microchip can't be lost," Carroll said.

WBTV is On Your Side partnering with CMPD's Animal Care and Control  for a low-cost micro chipping clinic.

The clinic is Thursday, May 9th, at Animal Care and Control on Byrum Drive in West Charlotte.  It runs from 11 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.

The microchips cost just $5. You don't have to be a Mecklenburg County resident to take part - all are welcome!

We will broadcast live from the clinic Thursday starting on WBTV News First at 4:00.
