Arrest made in east Charlotte house party shooting

Police in Charlotte say they have arrested a man that shot five people at an east Charlotte house party on Saturday.

El Contanase Steele, 36, is charged with five counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, shooting into an occupied dwelling and possession of a firearm by felon, according to a news release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Police were called out to a house on the 7300 block of William Reynolds Drive around 2 a.m. Saturday.

Hickory Grove Division patrol officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call with injuries.  When officers arrived on scene they located five males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.  Three victims were transported to Carolinas Medical Center.  Two victims were transported to CMC-University.  One of the victims was transported to Carolinas Medical Center and has life threatening injuries.  All other injuries are non-life threatening.

At this time detectives believe that some type of disturbance occurred in the front yard among guests at a house party. 

Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood to determine whether there are any witnesses to this incident. 

No arrests have been made at this time. We will continue to update you as we learn additional information.
