Duo arrested after traffic stop turns up 228 grams of meth, officials say


A man from Taylorsville and woman from Connelly Springs have been arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop and vehicle search turned up 288 grams of methamphetamine, according to the Catawba County Sheriff's Office.

 Officers with the Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division conducted at traffic stop on Interstate 40 in Catawba County for a traffic related offense. During the stop, the officers conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered the meth, which they say was hidden in a compartment not meant for storage inside the vehicle.

They also found $11,200 in cash. Both the drugs and currency were seized as a result of the investigation.   

The total value of the drug seizure is approximately $17,000, officials said.

Johnny Warren Speight and Alexis Brooke Goralczyk were both arrested and charged with trafficking methamphetamine by possession, trafficking methamphetamine by transportation and conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine.

Both were taken to the Catawba County Jail and were presented before a magistrate. They both received a $70,000 secured bond.

Officials say that Speight and Goralczyk, if convicted of the charges, could face a minimum of 90 months and a maximum of 117 months is state prison, along with fines up to $100,000 dollars.
