Flight delays hit CLT; passengers angry

Posted: Updated:

Wait times at airports continue to increase across the United States, and Charlotte Douglas International Airport is no exception. During the late afternoon on Thursday, the wait for some hit the two hour mark.

Passengers are blaming the sequestration cuts in Washington, D.C. that has already laid off and furloughed FAA employees. The FAA announced this week it would furlough 47,000 employees.

"I sat for an hour waiting to take off and there were 21 flights ahead of us," said Stuart Shrode, who flew in from New York.

Shrode is just one of thousands across the country waiting an extra hour, two hours, sometimes three hours to get off the ground.

"The government wants to take all our money, and if we say no cut back a little bit they hit us with this," he said.

The complaints go far beyond the walls of Charlotte Douglas. Several Republicans in Washington are taking out their aggression on the White House.

"They've had ample opportunity, months and months and months of warning that this was upon them, and they chose at a very late hour to come up with this remedy. It is absurd," said Republican Congressman Peter Roskam from Illinois.

People like Stuart Shrode blame both Republicans and Democrats for the long lines, job cuts.

"Not a lot of fun. They're just playing with us, and I have a friend who's an air traffic controller," Shrode said.
