CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Police in Charlotte have arrested a man they say is responsible for a fatal shooting in the parking lot of a Applebee's restaurant in southwest Charlotte Wednesday night.

Johathan Tristan Daberto Henderson, 24, was arrested early Thursday morning and charged with murder and armed robbery.

According to police, the call came in around 7:06 p.m. Wednesday from the 8700 block of South Tryon Street, near Steele Creek.

Officers found the body of William Lee Ellis Tunson, 21, when they arrived. Police said Thursday that Henderson and Tunson were conducting a drug transaction when Tunson was shot.

Malcolm Jones who works at a nearby gym called 911 after a trucker came and told him there was man bleeding in a car in the next parking lot over.

"I'm behind the Applebee's on South Tryon and Whitehall," he recalled. "I'm pretty sure there's a dead guy in this car and he's bleeding. There's bullet casings everywhere. You guys need to come out here and get help."

Police responded and found Tunson in the parking lot behind the Applebee's. They say he died from a gunshot wound and MEDIC pronounced him at the scene.

Wednesday, officers canvassed the area for witnesses, and, Captain Dozier said, asked for the public's help.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective.  Detective Tisdale is the lead detective assigned to the case.
