Chinese firm to hire 200 in Charlotte

Instead of local jobs going overseas, Charlotte is attracting foreign companies to the Queen City.

The largest IT company in China announced today that it would create an American headquarters in Charlotte, hiring 200 people here with an average salary of $100,000.

Pactera might just be the biggest Chinese firm you've never heard of.

But Vice President of Sales and Marketing Doug Vincent says there's a simple reason why Pactera is not exactly a household name.

It is the result of a recent merger, "and in the process, we took another name, Pactera, so we've only had the name since November," Vincent says. "The company's been together as one complete company since November, and so probably the biggest challenge we have in the U.S. Market now is just making sure people know who we are."

Charlotte Chamber President Bob Morgan, however, has been tracking the company for quite some time.  He believes there's a unique opportunity in China right now.

"We think that Charlotte has an opportunity to be ahead, frankly, of most other cities in spending time with China, building relationships, building our knowledge, inviting companies to come make their investment here in Charlotte," Morgan says.

Pactera will hire the new employees over the course of the next three years. Its office is in South Park.
