Police arrest man they say robbed mayor's business


A business owned by the mayor of Hickory and his wife was robbed at gunpoint Monday afternoon.

But luckily, police had a man in custody just hours after the robbery.

Mayor Rudy Wright was not at the business when the robbery happened but his wife Donna was.

WBTV spoke with her by phone Monday afternoon.

She says she gave the man some money after he ran into the store and demanded money.

He threatened her with a gun if she did not cooperate. she says.

The man's face was covered and he ran out of the store.

Another employee was able to get the license plate number of the vehicle.

Police located John David Rogers at his home just hours after the robbery.

He is charged with robbery with a firearm.
