Phoenix, Scottsdale hospitals plan to combine

PHOENIX (AP) -

Two major Arizona nonprofit hospital systems plan to merge.

An announcement by John C. Lincoln Health Network and Scottsdale Healthcare says they're engaged in talks aimed at creating a combined health system.

The announcement Thursday says the negotiations on a new nonprofit system should be completed by July 31.

According to the announcement, the combined system would be called Scottsdale Lincoln Health Network and have five hospitals with approximately 10,500 employees and 3,700 affiliated physicians.

The announcement says both systems are financially strong but want to enhance themselves.

John C. Lincoln operates the North Mountain and Deer Valley hospitals in Phoenix. Scottsdale Healthcare has Osborn Medical Center, Shea Medical Center and Thompson Peak Hospital.
