A Union County jury handed down a guilty verdict on Wednesday against a man who was accused of several sex crimes against children.

The jury returning a verdict of guilty of two counts of first degree sexual offense with a child and two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child against 26-year-old Kevin King, according to a news release from the Union County District Attorney's Office.

King sexually assaulted the victim, who was 7 years old at the time, according to the release. The offenses took place at the home of the defendant while the victim was visiting him in January of 2010.

Upon his conviction, King was sentenced to two consecutive sentences of a minimum of 236 months and a maximum of 293 months each for the sexual assault charges from the Honorable David Lee, the judge who presided over the trial. The defendant will be at least 69 years old before he is eligible for release from prison.

"I would like to commend the hard work of Assistant District Attorney Anne Reeves and Monroe Police Detective Shannon Huntley that allowed us to get this child predator off our streets," said District Attorney Trey Robison.  "I would also especially like to commend the child who had the courage to get up in court and testify against her abuser, and I would like to thank the people both inside and outside the court system who supported her through that process."
