Operation 52 Pickup gets underway in Lincoln County

Lincoln County Sheriff's Office narcotic's investigators, detectives and deputies have been deployed throughout the county Wednesday looking for 52 suspects for illegal drug activities.

The teams of deputies were assigned a list of individuals from each of the three county districts identified in true bills of indictment handed down by the Lincoln County Grand Jury, according to a news release from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.

The round-up got underway shortly after a briefing at 5:30 a.m. at the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center.

The officers are targeting 52 offenders on 125 felony drug charges.

The list of individuals includes a number of first time offenders and Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Lt. Jason Reid said, "A lot of people we have picked up in earlier round-ups are now incarcerated, have moved out of Lincoln County, or won't sell controlled substances in Lincoln County, therefore the increase in the number of first time offenders."

Reid wants the community to know that "we are aggressively pursuing drug traffickers everyday and we appreciate the community's support and the assistance we have received from the community in targeting drug offenders."

The North Carolina Department of Revenue, Mike Miller with the District Attorney's Office and the Lincoln County Magistrates are assisting in the arrest and processing of the offenders.

Since Sheriff David Carpenter took office in December of 2010 nearly 300 drug dealers are under indictment.
