A Hickory man was arrested after a joint investigation by the Granite Falls and Hickory Police Departments that began with a traffic stop, officials say.

Gary Len Pauley, Jr., 22, was pulled over on Highway 321 for a traffic violation on March 11. The Granite Falls officer suspected Pauley may have contraband, and called in a K-9 Officer with the Lenoir Police Department, which alerted the officers to a bag containing over a pound of marijuana, the report states.

ICE Agents, who said they had previous complaints that Pauley was distributing marijuana and were looking into him, contacted the Hickory Police Department. Together, they searched Pauley's apartment and found additional drug paraphernalia and evidence of distribution.

Pauley was charged with felonious possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, and felonious maintain a vehicle to keep/store a controlled substance.

He was taken to the Caldwell County Detention Center and placed under a $5,000 secured bond.
