INDEPENDENCE, KY (FOX19) -

An informational meeting was held on Monday for parents concerned about a Northern Kentucky foster parent arrested on child porn charges.

Timothy Johnston, 64, was arrested at his home on Friday night after his activities caught the attention of the Kenton County Attorney General's office.

"Mr. Johnston's Internet provider contact the attorney general's office with some suspicions they had and the attorney general's office opened an investigation," said Kenton County Commonwealth Attorney Rob Sanders.

The investigation led to a search of Johnston's home in Independence on Wednesday. While search warrants were being executed, Johnston's foster kids were removed from his custody.

"The foster children were actually at school at the time, but they were not taken back to Mr. Johnston's residence," explains Sanders. "They were placed with another foster family when they were let out of school that day."

Any parent whose child may have had contact with Johnston was urged to attend the special meeting with child experts on Monday. Prosecutors, detectives, and child forensic interviewers were on hand to speak with parents.

Sanders urged parents not to address their children about Johnston until after the meeting, where they received instruction from trained child forensic interviewers.

"It is important to ask children in a non-suggestive manner so as not to create a risk of false alarm," said Sanders. "Johnston remains incarcerated in the Kenton County Detention Center where he will likely remain until at least after this meeting, so children are not in immediate danger."

Sanders says that there is also concern about Johnston's involvement with the Boy Scouts.

"Based upon some research that's been done particularly on what's visible on his Facebook account its quite apparent that he is involved in the Boy Scouts and he also talks about being a foster parent so we know he's had contact with some children," said Sanders.

"There's going to be child forensic interviewers on hand that are specifically trained to interview children in a non-suggestive manner so you're not putting words in their mouths or thoughts in the head or leading them in any sort of way," says Sanders.

At this point, investigators say that there is no evidence that Johnston abused anyone. Investigators say research indicates that there is a strong correlation between collectors of child pornography and child abuse.

Johnston was charged with six counts of possessing and distributing child pornography. On Monday, a judge set his bond at $5,000 and ordered him to have no contact with minors or use the internet.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 17 at 1:30 p.m.
