Electrical fire displaces family of 5



A fire in south Charlotte this morning has displaced a family of 5. 

Charlotte Firefighters responded to the 1500 block of Choyce Avenue just before 11:00am after an alarm went out for a structure fire. 

Captain Mark Basnight of the Charlotte Fire Department told WBTV that the fire was accidental and electrical in nature. 

A juvenile who lived at the residence alerted his family and they were able to evacuate the home. 

The total damage to the property is being reported by Captain Basnight to be around $15,000.

The Red Cross is currently assisting the family.
