Authorities say the owner of a stolen van used real-time GPS tracking to help police catch the suspects.
According to Carroll County Sheriff's, the owner of Valley Medical Transportation, located in Louisville, reported a stolen van on Tuesday morning.
The owner was reportedly tracking the van through a GPS system and was able to direct officers to its exact location.
Police say the van was stopped in the parking lot of a Speedway in Carrollton. John W. Payton, 30, and Kevin Murphy, 26, both of Louisville, were arrested.
"Upon arresting the men and doing a search incident to arrest, we recovered approximately $35,000 in stolen property from the rear of the van. The property included motor vehicle tools, electronics, gaming systems, and games," said Chief Willhoite.
Both were charged in Carroll County with receiving stolen property of $10,000 or more. No word yet if additional charges will follow in Louisville.
A majority of the stolen items belonged to Valley Medical Transportation. Police say the owner or owners of the remaining items have not been identified.
Upon arriving to work, an employee noticed a lot of damage to the automotive repair part of the business and two vehicles were actually stolen when he arrived at work. The second van was recovered by Kentucky State Police in Pendleton.
