After warm start to week, temperatures forecast to plummet

Posted: Updated:
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Even with showers moving through the area Easter Sunday, many of us across the Carolinas will see afternoon highs top out near 70°.

The initial wave of moisture should head east during the late morning hours, bringing a few glimpses of sunshine back to the region.  The extra boost from the sun combined with Southwesterly winds will be responsible for the warmth we'll see today.

A few stray thunderstorms are possible in the late afternoon.

Monday will be even warmer, as highs climb into the 70s again.  Those spring-like temperatures won't stick around forever, thanks to a strong cold front moving in Tuesday morning.

A few showers will be possible, but the bigger headline will be the return of temperatures more typical of late January.

After a steady downward trend in temperatures, some of us could drop back into the 40s to near 50° by Thursday.
