A violent fast food robbery

Posted: Updated:

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - There has been a rash of fast food robberies recently in Charlotte. Most are pretty tame. But not all.

The Jack-in-the-Box on North Tryon street, near the University area, is open all night. It clearly states on the door that the dining room closes at midnight.

And midnight is when two hoodlums struck.

Surveillance video shows them surprising the clerk who was about the lock the dining room doors.

They wrestled her to the floor, banging her head against the counter and immediately grabbed her keys. The clerk was seen in pain, holding her eye with a tissue.

She was ordered to take one of the men straight to the office and open the store safe. She told police this made her think they had inside knowledge about the layout and operation of the restaurant.

While she was getting the safe open, the other robber was forcing the drive-thru window clerk to empty his cash register. When he fumbled with his keys, he got a gun stuck in his ribs as a sign to hurry up.

This robbery reminds CMPD Detective Marty Cuthbertson of a similar stick-up at the Jack-in-the-Box on Sunset Road last month.

"Descriptions are similar, but we're not absolutely sure that they were actually the ones that committed that robbery on Sunset Road."

Before they left, they went back into the office and stole the female clerk's cell phone. And then, they made a mistake.

"After the robbery occurred, they ran out the front door and jumped in a gray colored car. They really couldn't tell what kind of car it was. And they drove around, to the drive-thru."

That's where a camera caught a quick glimpse of the car making its getaway.

"Instead of driving out the parking lot, they drove thru the parking lot."

Police are concerned about this violence and want to catch these two. Call Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600 and you won't have to leave your name, plus, you could earn a reward.
