A look at this week's snowfall totals

A major winter storm moved across the Northeast this week, dumping over a foot of snow in many locations. The North Carolina mountains were not spared one last heavy dose of winter. Here's a look at some of the snowfall totals reported across the High Country:

Boone: 6"
Banner Elk: 7"
Beech Mountain: 10"
Sugar Mountain: 10"
Grandfather Mountain: 11"

These observations were updated as of Tuesday morning. The snow continued throughout the day, and by Wednesday, several inches of additional snow were reported at Beech Mountain and Banner Elk:

Beech Mountain: 3"
Banner Elk: 1.7"

The threat of black ice will persist through Thursday morning due to below freezing temperatures across the mountains.

Another system is expected to move in this weekend, bringing rain back to the forecast Sunday.
