Wells Fargo experiences website, debit card problems

It's been a weird couple of days for Wells Fargo customers.

First, some couldn't access their accounts online, and then others realized their debit cards were being rejected when they tried to use them for purchases.

The bank says it believes the issues on its website Tuesday were the result of a cyber attack.

But those online issues have ceased, and the problems today, Wells Fargo says, are unrelated. The bank is apologizing for any inconvenience to its customers.

Wednesday morning customers were reporting problems as they tried to buy coffee and Lynx light-rail tickets. Similar stories popped up across the country.

A Wells spokesman said in an email that the problem originated from a technical glitch by Visa, and that issue, as well, has now been resolved.

We couldn't get many more details from that spokesman at the bank, though, about the cyber attack.

But TD Bank and KeyBank were also reportedly hit by similar cyber attacks last week.

So far, the only thing those cyber attacks seem to accomplish is tying up the sites they're targeting.
