Woman scammed out of $230K from man on online dating site, police say

A Charlotte woman says she met someone on an online dating site who scammed her out of more than $230,000, according to a report filed with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The 66-year-old woman told police that the suspect scammed her out of money and electronics from Sept. 1, 2012 until March 21 of 2013, according to the report.

Among the items listed as taken are $227,515, a Wi-Fi receiver, clothing from Walmart, a cell phone, Samsung Galaxy tablet and cell phone plan, according to the report.

Total amount of all property taken is listed at $231,712.59, according to the report.

Police are investigating and say they have a person of interest in the case but no warrants have been filed.
