Heavy rain, even snow in forecast for Carolinas

An area of low pressure to our west is sending a lot of moisture our way, and soaking rain is in the forecast for Sunday.

The highest totals will remain south of Charlotte, where over 2 inches of rain are possible. To the north, expect upwards of an inch to fall before the rain pushes east late this afternoon.

In the mountains, an upper level disturbance will then move in overnight and bring another round of winter weather to the high country. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect until Tuesday evening for elevations above 3500 feet, where 5-7 inches of snow are possible through Tuesday afternoon.

Wind gusts of up to 40 mph will also cause blowing snow and poor visibility along mountain roads.
