BURKE COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -
A Valdese man was convicted and sentenced for felony sexual offense on a child by an adult offender.
29-year-old Randal Eugene Powell was convicted after a three-day trial in Burke County Criminal Superior Court. The jury deliberated for about an hour.
Powell was sentenced to no less than 300 months and no more than 369 months in the North Carolina Division of Adult Correction. That's 25 to 30.75 years. Powell was also ordered lifetime registration with the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry and will be subject to satellite-based monitoring upon his release from prison.
This stems from an incident reported in November 2010. Deputies with the Burke County Sheriff's Office responded to a sexual assault on two children under the age of 12. Deputies investigated and charged Powell in January 2011.
Powell will now be transported to Central Prison in Raleigh for processing.
