CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A warning was issued to parents at a middle school in Charlotte after a student made online threats against former classmates.

The message went out to parents Thursday night from Francis Bradley Middle School Principal Laura Rosenbach.

"I want to let you know that today we received information regarding  rumors that involve a possible violent situation," the message started.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg School officials told WBTV that a former student, who is now at Turning Point Academy, an alternative school within CMS, made a threat on social media.

Students at FBMS saw the threat and reported it.

CMS officials investigated the threat and does not believe it to be a credible threat, nor does the police department.

"We have involved the police department and CMS officials," the notice to parents continued. "We want you to know that we take these situations very seriously and will do everything we can to ensure your students safety."

Extra security has been posted at Francis Bradley Middle School.
