New property record tool available for Mecklenburg residents

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

The Mecklenburg County Assessor's Office has released an online tool that will allow property owners to review how the County has their real property listed.

The tool allows property owners to verify information about the property's characteristics, make changes and then submit any changes automatically to the Assessor's Office for updating.

Pearson's Appraisal Service developed the tool. The County hired the outside vendor hired to help correct errors made in the 2011 county-wide property revaluation.

Currently, information about each property is available through several online read-only databases including POLARIS and Real Estate Lookup. The assessor's office has a paper property card for each property that lists all of its characteristics. A discovery during the review of the 2011 revaluation revealed that the information about many properties is incorrect or out-of-date.

The new online tool will allow property owners to review information about their property that can sometimes be critical in determining an accurate valuation.

This feedback from property owners will be instrumental in finding errors in properties and neighborhoods most affected by the minor issues identified by Pearson's.

The new tool can be found at the Assessor's website along with a short tutorial to help property owners navigate and make changes.
