MONROE, NC (WBTV) -

Union Academy will have a new head coach in football in 2013, but it will be a very familiar name among those who are Carolina Panthers fans.

Brad Hoover was introduced as the team's new coach at a press conference on Monday.

Hoover spent 10 years as a fullback for the Panthers and had some memorable moments including being the starting fullback for the Super Bowl team in 2004.

He takes on a new challenge of taking the Cardinals football program to the next level.

Union Academy started playing football back in 2009 and has yet to have a winning season.  They did break even in 2011 with a 6-6 record.

That same season, they qualified for the playoffs and won the school's first ever playoff game over Robbinsville 18-7.

Last year, they went 5-7, but once again qualified for the state playoffs where they won their 1st round game over West Columbus before losing in the next round to Albemarle.
