Police: Former scout leader stole from Cub Scouts


Police in Troutman have arrested a scout leader they say was taking money from the Cub Scouts.

Ira Haltiwanger, 35, of Troutman, is charged with embezzlement and obtaining property by false pretenses, according to a news release from the Troutman Police Department.

Scout leaders of Pack 174 reported money missing from the Cub Scouts bank accounty on Feb. 13.

Bank records showed money be taken out of the account after Cub Scout Treasurer Ira Haltiwanger had resigned.

Police say he had resigned after questinos were asked about the Pack's finances.

Approximately $1,650.55 was misused by Haltiwanger for his personal gain, according to the release.

Haltiwanger was release on a $1,500 bond from the Iredell County Jail.
