The ‘ibotta' app promises to let you earn money while you shop. It's almost a reverse 'couponing' application for your smart phone.
There are daily deals you choose from. You start by choosing the items you're going to purchase. Then you have a few options on how to earn your cash. You can play trivia games, learn facts about the product or just share on facebook that you ‘like' the product or even the app. The money you earn ranges from a quarter to a dollar.
Once you've done your shopping, you verify your purchases by using the app to scan the barcode on the product and then you upload the receipt. The app walks you through the process. The app contacts the vendor where you bought the items and confirms your purchase. Then the wheels are in motion to get your money. You must earn at least five dollars before ibotta pays the money out to your pay pal account. You can withdraw as cash, or donate to a local school. The app is free.
I am not a big fan of coupons, because I don't find the time to keep them organized. But this is a new way of being rewarded for purchasing brands you love. I love store brands, and I haven't seen any ibotta offers for those…when and if they do, it would be a dream app for me.
