Police: Smelling "too good" lead to drug charges for man

Posted: Updated:
SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

Police officers often have highly trained noses.  They can recognize the smell of illegal drugs, a recently fired gun, or in this case... cologne.

According to a report at the Salisbury Police Department, that highly trained sense resulted in drug charges for Dustin Stirewalt, 20, of Grace Church Road.

Police were helping with a traffic checkpoint in China Grove on Highway 29 on Saturday night.

When Stirewalt drove up, SPD Officer J. R. Cable noticed "the strong odor of freshly sprayed cologne."

Cable searched the car and discovered marijuana and pills.
