COLUMBIA, SC (WBTV) -
The Red Flag Alert was lifted Monday morning by the South
Carolina Forestry Commission.
Officials said, "Fire weather conditions have abated to include rain, higher
relative humidity values, decreased winds, and cooler temperatures. These
conditions also alleviate some of the strain on Forestry Commission equipment
and personnel."
Due to a major structure fire in Horry County, a burning ban
remains in effect there until lifted by the Horry County Fire Dept.
Preliminary fire statistics for the weekend from the
Forestry Commission's dispatch centers are attached for reference.
These
numbers represent only those fires to which SCFC personnel responded and also
don't include some fires (11 in total) which remain open and aren't archived.
Officials say to remember burning debris leads to nearly half of all wildfires in South Carolina.
