Rev. Bill Godair, pastor of Cornerstone Church, is pledging $10,000 to fight the American Civil Liberties Union over the issue of sectarian prayer at Rowan County commission meetings.
"I will be at the Rowan County Commissioners meeting representing Cornerstone Church," Godair wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday. "Last week the ALCU filed suit against our Commissioners for praying in Jesus name. I want to go on record supporting our Commissioners and their 1st Amendment Rights. Also pledging $10,000.00 for legal fees and promotional materials. If you would like to join me feel free to do do. It's time to take a stand ! I believe the meeting starts at 6 pm, I will keep you up dated on Monday."
The ACLU has sued the county over the issue. An emergency called meeting over commissioners and attorneys represetning the county is set for 4:30 Monday afternoon, ahead of the scheduled 6:00 meeting time.
