The Forestry Commission is asking everyone to wait to burn debris until after the next rainfall.
Officials say there is a Fire Weather Watch for Saturday, March 16 due to low humidity, high winds, and relatively high temperatures. Winds are expected to average 20-25, with gusts up to 30. The temperature will be in the mid-70s.
The South Carolina Forestry Commission says careless debris burners cause more than 40% of wildfires in South Carolina each year. Those who are caught will be fined.
Keep in mind when you burn: never leave your fire. Watch for flying sparks, pay attention to the smoke drift, notice weather changes, and if you are concerned – put out the fire.
