INDIAN TRAIL, NC (WBTV) -
An Office Manager from Indian Trail is under arrest, accused of embezzlement.
39-year-old Carlene Gifford Kefauver of Mill Grove Road is charged with 33 counts of embezzlement by employee, five counts of forgery, and five counts of uttering a forged instrument.
Investigators say between November 30, 2011 and August 21, 2012, Kefauver wrote herself 33 unauthorized checks totaling $27,975.12 from the operating account at Queen City Insurance Agency.
Kefauver was arrested Tuesday and placed in the Mecklenburg County Jail under $105,000 secured bond.
An estimated 10 cents of every dollar paid in insurance premiums goes toward the payment of fraudulent claims.
