Heavy Rain Overnight; I-77 Lanes Closed

BREAKING NEWS ALERT:  Several lanes of I-77 southbound near Clanton Road are blocked as I write this note...following a tractor trailer that overturned on the highway.  Cam Man Ron Lee  is at the scene and will bring us live reports to give you the most complete information on what's going on.

We've had a lot of rain overnight...heavy downpours in the area.  Meteorologist Ashley Batey says the rain will be ending early this morning.  Plentiful sunshine returns this afternoon. Highs in the mid and upper 60s.  Be sure to tune in for your complete, First Alert Weather forecast.

Right now, police say they're looking for the person who robbed a man and shot him several times in east Charlotte.  It happened around midnight on Monroe Road.  the victim has been taken to the hospital.

We've learned five U-S troops have died in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.  A statement from NATO says the helicopter went down in Kandahar City.

The conclave is underway at the Vatican right now.  Cardinals are preparing to hold their first of a series of votes on a new pope this morning (they're five hours ahead of us).  But before that happens-- a mass is being held to mark the important event for those in the Roman Catholic community.

A big sports story!  The Davidson Wildcats have won the Southern Conference Championship...which means they're going to the NCAA tournament!  We have highlights from last night's game against the College of Charleston.

We have new information on a wild brawl at a fashion show in Charlotte's No-Da neighborhood.  Tens of thousands of people have watched the video on You-Tube.  Police used it as evidence-- and now say they know who started it.

Just hours from now-- a big step forward will be made in constructing the new Knights baseball stadium in Uptown Charlotte.  Construction crews will move the first piece of steel into place at B-B-and-T stadium at 11-45 this morning.
