CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Traffic is at a standstill along the Brookshire Freeway right now after a fuel tanker truck overturned.
Traffic along the Brookshire Freeway eastbound is being diverted to surface streets after a loaded gasoline tanker truck with 8500 gallons onboard overturned near the Beatties Ford Road exit.
Westbound traffic is flowing, but at a slow pace.
Charlotte firefighters said the driver was pinned for a brief time, and had to be rescued by emergency crews.
It's not known what caused the accident in the first place.
There has been a fuel spill, and HAZMAT units have been dispatched to the area.
We're told the accident will affect traffic in the area for the better part of the day.
