Posted: Updated:
BOONE, NC (WBTV) -

Just before 1 a.m. Friday morning, the Boone Police Department received a report of a suspicious incident in the 200 block of West King Street.

A woman told police a man tried to engage her in a conversation in Spanish on the road. She ran to her apartment and heard his footsteps following her.

The woman made it safely to her apartment and called police. She described the man as Hispanic, about 5'4", heavy-set, and in his thirties. He was wearing a red plaid jacket and dark pants.

"At this time it does not appear that a crime was committed; however, we wanted to make the members of our community aware of this situation after what occurred a few weeks ago. We cannot say that one incident is related to the other, but we do want people to be alert."- Detective Kat Brackenridge, Boone Police.

On February 24, 2013 Boone Police took a report of a rape in the same area. The suspect in that case was similar in description to the subject in last night's incident. Both incidents are currently under investigation by the Boone Police Department.
