MONROE, NC (WBTV) -
A North Carolina man was convicted of First Degree Murder Thursday for the death of a local elementary school teacher.
Lamate Sherron Anderson was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Anderson killed Yolanda Simon in her Monroe home in 2010. Sims was a fifth-grade teacher in Anson County.
During the trial, prosecutors said Anderson took a knife from his home and walked across the street to Simon's home. Both lived on Crooked Creek Court in Monroe.
He knocked on the door. When she opened it, he stabbed her multiple times without warning.
Simon's six-year-old daughter witnessed the stabbing that took her mother's life.
In court, Anderson attempted to claim insanity.
It took the jury less than two hours to reach a guilty verdict.
