Deputies arrest four men in connection to fake checks at Food Lion

LENOIR, NC (WBTV) -

Police in Lenoir say four men were arrested in Lenoir for passing fake checks at a grocery store.

Police responded to a complaint of several men passing counterfeit business checks at Food Lion, according to a news release from the Lenoir Police Department. 

Uniform officers arrived and arrested one offender within the store passing a counterfeit check. 

Food Lion employees gave officers additional information of a vehicle leaving the scene containing the other suspects. 

The vehicle was located and stopped by officers at the Tobacco To Go convenience store located on Hickory Boulevard. 

Officers were able to discover that two counterfeit checks were passed at Food Lion by the vehicle occupants, according to the release. 

Cash was received by the offenders from Food Lion for one of the checks in the amount of $376.42. 

Hudson Police assisted with the investigation and one of the suspects was arrested by Hudson Police for passing a counterfeit check at a Food Lion located in their jurisdiction. 


Gregory Latrone James, 31, Dashawn Jafone Edwards, 18, Comma Lee Smith, 31, and Frankie Davis Rogers, 21, are all charged with one count each of Forgery & Uttering.

All four men are from Charlotte.
 
The two checks and cash were recovered.  The counterfeit checks displayed a BB&T bank account in the name of M & S Warehouse in Lenoir. James was charged with an additional offense of marijuana possession, according to the release.

All four men were placed in the Caldwell County Detention Center awaiting a first appearance in Lenoir District Court scheduled for March 7.
