Statistics show that nearly one in three children living in Phoenix is at risk of hunger.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul partnered with Feed The Children and PepsiCo to bring two tractor trailers full of food to Phoenix on Wednesday morning. That's enough to help 800 families in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
Volunteers will distribute 25-pound boxes of food -- along with products donated by PepsiCo -- to families who present a voucher onsite during the event.
The boxes should last a family of four for up to one week. St. Vincent de Paul has already identified families that will receive assistance.
Feed The Children's Americans Feeding Americans Caravan has helped more than 440,000 families across the nation since 2009 in cities affected by the economic downturn.
